CH-146 Griffon

The CH-146 Griffon (Bell 412HP) utility tactical helicopter is used for tactical airlift of troops & equipment, logistic airlift, aeromedical support & casualty evacuation, reconnaissance & surveillance, direction & control of fire, and command & liaison of communications assistance.
The Griffon was purchased to replace the single and twin Huey and the Kiowa helicopters, and has proved invaluable to civilian law enforcement, drug and special operations. In the summer of 1998, Griffons outfitted with thermal imaging equipment were used to locate forest fire hot spots during Operation Mandrill in Alberta. Four Griffons flew 230 hours and carried 1,452 passengers to support the firefighters.
